On September 4, 2008 I have been appointed by the General Director of the Unesco Koichiro Matsüra as Interim Director of IESALC. Ana Lúcia Gazzola, who is taking a leave of absence, built an important structure of credibility and legitimacy in those two years as the director and it is my responsibility to maintain the standards achieved.
In this new phase, our main goal is the consolidation and representation of the regional agenda for the next UNESCO's World Conference in Higher Education to be held from 6 to 8 of July, 2009 in Paris. "The New Dynamics of Higher Education" is the theme of the world conference.

Social Responsibility in Higher Education in Belize
Social responsibility has been a strategic goal in higher education since the inception of tertiary education institutions in Belize in the 1950s. This was evident in institutions such as the Bliss School of Nursing, the Belize Teachers' Training College, and more recently the University College of Belize, Church-State and government-funded Junior Colleges, one privately managed University and the National University of Belize.
