This week the United Nations celebrates the World Maritime Day
This day was established by International Maritime Organization (IMO) with the purpose to improve the security and efficiency of the international maritime operations and to prevent contamination by illegal discharges and ships.

IESALC participates in the design of a Latin-American Doctorate Degree focusing in the educational profession
With the goal to finalize the curriculum design of the international doctorate with focus in the educational profession, representatives of eleven universities of Latin American gather this week in Chile with the assistance of Orealc/Iesalc.

Colombia is expanding Education and Maritime Culture Programs
Considering that Colombia is a country with 3,100 kilometers of coastal zones located in both Atlantic and Pacific oceans, with marine areas occupying 48% of the national territory, the Colombian Commission of the Ocean - CCO, organization that advises, plans and coordinate with the national government in matters related to National Policy of the Ocean and Coast Zone Areas.

Brazil announces an increase in the number of spots for students attending federal universities
The news were announced in a meeting attended by President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, Education Minister Fernando Haddad, Science and Technology Minister Sérgio Rezende, Planning Minister Paulo Bernardo and Civil House Minister Dilma Rouseff, representatives of the National Congress and Chancellors of 59 federal universities and Lúcia Stumpf, president of the National Students Union (UNE).
