Social inclusion is today one of the major challenges of higher education, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
The subject of inclusion was emphatically addressed in the Declaration of the Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES 2008) held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, in June of 2008, as well as in the major guidelines of its Action Plan.

Support Program for Indigenous Students in Mexican Institutions of Higher Education
The Support Program for Indigenous Students in Mexican Institutions of Higher Education (PAEIIES) began in Mexico in 2001, as a pilot project coordinated by the National Association of Universities and Institutions of Higher Education (ANUIES) with financial support from the Ford Foundation.

Embassy of Chile and UNESCO-IESALC open photo exhibition in honour of Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda
Thirty seven years after Pablo Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature, and 63 years after Gabriela Mistral received the same award, on November 18 the Embassy of Chile in Venezuela, together with the UNESCO International Institute of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) and the Circulo de Escritores de Venezuela , presented a photographic exhibition at IESALC headquarters in Caracas.

Latin American University Thinkers and Pioneers to be launched in Caracas
This November 25, the book Latin American University Thinkers and Pioneers will be launched at the El Buscón bookstore, located in the Paseo Las Mercedes Shopping Centre in Caracas. The project was coordinated by Dr. Carmen García Guadilla, Academic Consultant of the UNESCO International Institute of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC).

ICDE  
Challenges of Distance Education to be analyzed in Santo Domingo
Hosted by the University of the Caribbean, the conference entitled "The Current Challenges of Virtuality" sponsored by the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), will be held in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from November 24-26.
