2009 is the year of the World Conference on Higher Education, a unique opportunity to discuss with representatives of all countries of the world a platform to support building higher education of quality and pertinence in our region.
Latin America and the Caribbean already met last year in Cartagena for the regional preparatory conference, CRES 2008, where we produced a Declaration and an Action Plan. CRES 2008 allowed us to review our goals as a region and to identify important items for a strategic agenda.

Astronomy with a Venezuelan stamp
Many people don't know that there can be found in Venezuela one of the highest observatories in the world – the National Astronomical Observatory, located in the Llano del Hato in Apartaderos, in the State of Mérida. Also largely unknown is that it is the largest observatory complex among those near the equator. Due to its location, it has the advantage of being able to observe both hemispheres.
