This March, UNESCO will hold the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Bonn, Germany.
According to the definition of the World Commission on the Environment and Development (the "Brundtland Commission", 1987), sustainable development involves seeking solutions in order to face the needs of future generations, while at the same time taking into consideration the needs of society today, in all parts of the world, without forgetting the cultural, social, and economic context, as well as the environment.

IESALC intensifies its work in the field of cultural diversity and interculturality in higher education
Soon after the Regional Conference on Higher Education - CRES 2008 (Cartagena, June, 2008) and following it's recommendations, IESALC has made an effort to intensify it's work in the field of higher education, cultural diversity, and interculturality, which begun in 2007 with the project that led to the book Cultural Diversity and Interculturality in Higher Education.

Germany to host the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development
For three days, the city of Bonn, Germany, will host the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD): "Entering in the Second Half of the United Nations Decade". During the event, 700 people from five continents will exchange experiences related to ESD.

Towards the 2009 World Conference: Sub-Regional Conference for South, Southeast, and Central Asia
All of the countries of the world continue to work in preparation for the World Conference on Higher Education (WCHE 2009). This high-level meeting has mobilized a large number of initiatives and has awakened increasing interest regarding the importance of the development of higher education in different countries; above all in developing countries.
