Exchanging information and knowledge is essential to promote integration and generate equity in the region. Therefore, the creation of a shared space for higher education is a main interest of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The theme, "New Dynamics in Higher Education and of Research for Social Change and Development" will be discussed in Paris between July 5-8 during the World Conference on Higher Education (WCHE).

In March, IESALC launched puntoEDU, the podcast of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean. PuntoEDU is a radio broadcast that treats current trends in higher education in the region.

Commission determines timetable of steps toward inaugurating UNILA.
 At the 9th Meeting of CI-UNILA, held in Curitiba from April 6-7, the members of the commission concluded proposals of initial academic activities of the university programmed to inaugurate UNILA during the second half of 2009 through he Mercosur Institute of Advanced Studies (IMEA).
