From UNESCO's Headquarters in Paris
The future of higher education and research will be at the centre of discussions during the World Conference on Higher Education (WCHE) 2009, an event for which Latin America and the Caribbean are prepared.

     

 


The Internationalization of Higher Education : Progress and Perspectives in Latin America and the Caribbean

The world conference that will take place in July at UNESCO headquarters in Paris seeks to carry out an analysis of the changes that have occurred since the World Conference on Higher Education in the XXI Century: vision and action (1998), as well as to establish a strategic agenda for the development of policies in the area.

 
 
Higher Education Convoked for the World Conference in Paris
UNESCO has convoked its Member States for the Second World Conference on Higher Education. The event will take place in Paris at UNESCO headquarters from July 05-08 of this year. Its major focus will be: "The new dynamics of higher education and research for social change and development".
 
 
The brain drain, networks, and knowledge transfer: Disconnections and new modes of articulation in Latin America and the Caribbean
The brain drain was an important issue in socio-political discussions on development in Latin America during the 1970s and 1980s. The theme then went into eclipse as a topic of study, and reappeared on research and policy agendas during the middle of the previous decade.
 
UNILA: the Latin American university to begin its activities in August
According to official announcements , August 19 is the date set for the beginning of activities of the Universidade Federal de Integração Latinoamericana (UNILA). The inauguration of the institution will be marked by the creation of the Advisory Council of the MERCOSUR Institute of Advanced Studies (IMEA), which is made up of distinguished specialists dedicated particularly to research.
