A statement on intangible cultural heritage and higher education will be included in the regional meeting

The UNESCO Office in Montevideo in collaboration with the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America (UNESCO-IESALC), the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) with headquarters in Argentina, the Regional Center for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Latin America (CRESPIAL), and UNESCO’s Regional Office of Culture for Latin America and the Caribbean in Havana, Cuba, will hold the Regional Meeting for the Search for Mechanisms of Cooperation in Intangible Cultural Heritage and Higher Education, on November 21st and 22nd in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

On November 21st an opening ceremony will be held with the participation of governmental and academic authorities along with recognized experts. This day 3 discussion tables will be implemented: 1) "Intangible Heritage, the 2003 Convention and its impact on the Region", 2) "Cultural Management and its relationship with the Intangible Cultural Heritage", 3) "Cooperation in the field of higher education in Cultural Management and Intangible Cultural Heritage", and at the end of the day the speakers will have discussions about their practical experiences and reflections.

November 22nd will destined to jointly reach an agreement and design a cooperation mechanism between higher education institutions on the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Based on contribution of all those involved, the goals will be discussed and agreed upon, and personal or institutional commitments will be assumed; these will be recorded in a Final Joint Declaration or Road Map.
