CINDA seminar will analyze trends in quality, improvement and diversity in higher education

On January 8th and 9th, 2018, Santiago de Chile will become a space for meeting and reflection on the global trends faced by higher education (HE) systems in Latin America, during the Seminar on Higher Education for the 21st century.

The coordination and organization of this event of regional magnitude will be carried out by  the Inter-University Development Center (CINDA), with the support of the International Network of Organizations for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (INQAAHE), the National Accreditation Commission (CNA-Chile), the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO-IESALC), the III Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES 2018 in Spanish), the Ibero-American Network for the Accreditation of the Quality of Higher Education (RIACES) and the National Council of Education (CNED-Chile), and will count with the participation of 11 international specialists.

The main goal of this meeting is to analyze trends in quality, improvement and diversity in higher education in order to establish a 2.0 quality assurance roadmap to guide the region towards a high quality HE, with opportunities of participation and inclusion for all of society’s sectors.

After more than 20 years of the implementation of quality assurance mechanisms in the Latin American region, the issue of quality remains a cornerstone in the development of higher education and social concerns. “Although it is true that there has been a substantial amount of accumulated knowledge and lessons learned, it is necessary to generate an instance of shared reflection to permit us to analyze these experiences, identify today’s reality and establish the bases to define the future of a quality assurance that will allow us to continue advancing ", said María José Lemaitre, executive director of CINDA and thematic coordinator of the axis related to quality assurance of RCHE 2018, on the event’s website.

Susanna Karakhanya, president of INQAAHE (United Arab Emirates); Jairo Cifuentes, representative of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia); Raúl Aguilera, president of RIACES (Paraguay); Alejandra Contreras, head of the Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education of Chile; Erika Soboleva, representative of the Accreditation Agency AKKORK (Russia); Peter Maassen of the University of Oslo; Alberto Dibbern of the National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation (CONEAU- Argentina); Maiki Udam, of the Accreditation Agency EKKA (Estonia), Carol Bobby, former president of INQAAHE (USA), Arturo Jofré of the National System of Accreditation of Higher Education (SINAES - Costa Rica) and Pedro Henríquez Guajardo, Director of UNESCO-IESALC will participate in this meeting.

The initiative of CINDA is part of a set of academic events in preparation for the RCHE 2018, to be held in the Argentine city of Córdoba, from June 11th to June 15th, 2018.
